At Our Chiang Mai CELTA institute, the course is designed to last 120 contact hours spread across 20 days with 6 hours of training per day. We feature all aspects of the CELTA syllabus, including lesson inputs on planning for effective teaching, language analysis and awareness, resources and material as well as classroom observation.

Our CELTA candidates are assessed using the teaching practice, which is an integral part of the course and written assignments. Teaching Practice is carried out in small groups of six candidates with about 6 - 15 model students from elementary and intermediate levels. There will also be feedback sessions led by experienced trainers who observes during the practice.

Entry Requirements

  • You should be 20 years old by the commencement date of the course (trainees can be accepted over 18 at the center’s discretion).
  • While the course itself does not require you to have a degree, you should have a standard of education equivalent to that required for an entry into primary or higher education.
  • Have a strong command, awareness of English language with equal skills over verbal and written English so as to follow the course and complete the assignments.

Assessment

You will be continually assessed throughout the course and there is no final examination. The two types of assessment are:

  • Teaching Practice
  • Written Assignments

CELTA course trainees will always be kept informed of their progress during the course and an external assessor, appointed by Cambridge English, moderates each course.

Teaching Practice, Observation

Teaching practice is an integral part of the course where trainees work in groups to plan, observe and give feedback to each other.

  • Six hours of assessed teaching practice with real students in real classes.
  • Detailed oral and written feedback of your teaching practice.
  • Observation of both peer and qualified ELT teachers for six hours.

The Elephant Nature Park is one of the most incredible places to visit in Chiang Mai. Although visitors are not allowed to ride an elephant, you can enjoy watching them in their natural habitat. You should also visit some of the Buddhist temples in the city.

Popularly referred to as Wats, Thai temples are beautifully crafted and offer exciting activities such a monk chat. Some temples you can visit include the Wat Pan Tao, Wat Doi Suthep which is famed as the most beautiful and the Wat Umong.

For a more thrilling experience, try cliff diving at the Hang Dong quarry. Although it was originally a limestone quarry, the spot has now filled with water deep enough that visitors can jump off a cliff as high as 12m into the pool of glowing turquoise green water.
