Note that, an Online CELTA holds the same value as the Face-to-face course, and is equally recognized by ESL employers worldwide.

Entry Requirements

  • You should be 20 years old by the commencement date of the course (trainees can be accepted over 18 at the center’s discretion).
  • While the course itself does not require you to have a degree, you should have a standard of education equivalent to that required for an entry into primary or higher education.
  • Have a strong command, awareness of English language with equal skills over verbal and written English so as to follow the course and complete the assignments.

Course Syllabus

  • Learners and teachers and the teaching and learning context
  • Language analysis and awareness
  • Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing
  • Planning and resources for different contexts
  • Developing teaching skills and professionalism
  • Classroom observation and management skills
  • Teaching practice and guidelines

Assessment

You will be continually assessed throughout the course and there is no final examination. The two types of assessment are:

  • Teaching Practice
  • Written Assignments

CELTA course trainees will always be kept informed of their progress during the course and an external assessor, appointed by Cambridge English, moderates each course.

Teaching Practice, Observation

Teaching practice is an integral part of the course where trainees work in groups to plan, observe and give feedback to each other.

  • Six hours of assessed teaching practice with real students in real classes.
  • Detailed oral and written feedback of your teaching practice.
  • Observation of both peer and qualified ELT teachers for six hours.

Things to do in Medellin, Colombia while taking a CELTA

Medellin is a vibrant city with no shortage of activities for our CELTA trainees. You may decide to arrive in the city before your course begins to have more time to explore or wait behind for a few days after your training. Whichever way, you will always have a variety of things to do.

You can go cycling, walking in the hills and even paragliding! There is also a modern art museum and lots of cafes and restaurants to choose from.

Start at the Plaza Botero to see the fantastic sculptures made by Fernando Botero Angulo, a Medellin sculptor. Then continue to Parque Lleras later in the day to enjoy the electric nightlife of the El Poblado neighborhood filled with locals and foreigners. The nightclub, Eslabon Prendido, is especially famous for the amazing Colombian dance experience it offers after a tiring TEFL session. If you love Salasa, then this is the place to be.

For lovers of shopping, the Santa Fe Shopping center will be the best spot to visit. This striking mega mall feature stores like H$M, Zara ad many others.

Medellin is also a great place to try some delicious food. You can choose to eat in modern upmarket restaurants if you like, but it is always more fun to try the traditional Colombian dishes in a smaller eatery. The Bandeja Paisa is a popular dish consisting of multiple elements like red beans, ground meat, hogao (warm tomato chutney) pork rinds, avocado, fried eggs, plantains, white rice, sausage, arepas (corn cakes), and black pudding.

Another exciting thing to do in Medellin is to take a Pablo Escobar tour for which the city is famous.
