Note that, an Online CELTA holds the same value as the Face-to-face course, and is equally recognized by ESL employers worldwide.

Prague Course Details

Entry Requirements

  • You should be 20 years old by the commencement date of the course (trainees can be accepted over 18 at the center’s discretion).
  • While the course itself does not require you to have a degree, you should have a standard of education equivalent to that required for an entry into primary or higher education.
  • Have a strong command, awareness of English language with equal skills over verbal and written English so as to follow the course and complete the assignments.

Course Syllabus

Some of the main units of learning are:

  • Learners and teachers and the teaching and learning context
  • Language analysis and awareness
  • Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing
  • Planning and resources for different contexts
  • Developing teaching skills and professionalism
  • Classroom observation and management skills
  • Teaching practice and guidelines

Assessment

You will be continually assessed throughout the course and there is no final examination. The two types of assessment are:

  • Teaching Practice
  • Written Assignments

CELTA course trainees will always be kept informed of their progress during the course and an external assessor, appointed by Cambridge English, moderates each course.

Teaching Practice, Observation

Teaching practice is an integral part of the course where trainees work in groups to plan, observe and give feedback to each other.

  • Six hours of assessed teaching practice with real students in real classes.
  • Detailed oral and written feedback of your teaching practice.
  • Observation of both peer and qualified ELT teachers for six hours.

CELTA Training Center in Prague

We have two TEFL centers in Prague from which you can choose to take your CELTA. Both are run by experienced professionals who ensure that quality training is delivered at all times.

The Bitovska Center: Our prestigious TEFL teacher training center at Praha 4-Michle, Czechia, was established in 1990, and is one of the largest private language schools in the Czech Republic. Our tutors are highly qualified and have received quality methodological education that enables them to give you the best TEFL training.

There is good-standard and affordable accommodation close to the Bitovska center. This means you still have access to your colleagues after your TEFL classes. You can work on assignments or prepare lesson plans together in the comfort of your rooms or just hang out in the gardens. Our apartments are within walking distance of the center with gardens for your pleasure.

The Narodni Center: Located at Narodni, Praha 1 within a serene environment conducive for TEFL learning, this center has been training teachers around the world since 1998. The center has been growing together in help you become leading ELT professionals and trained teachers.

The center is well equipped with both heated and air-conditioned classrooms, a friendly atmosphere to relax and a team of very supportive tutors. At Narodni, we organize monthly pub nights and other events you may choose to participate in and enjoy your CELTA training period.

We offer trainees two different types of accommodation, a stay with local or shared accommodation in our students' apartment. The homestay allows you to observe the Prague lifestyle closely and enjoy the benefits of living with a local.

At both our training centers in Prague, we expose our graduates to opportunities within the city to help them get job placements faster.

Why Choose CELTA in Prague?

Most of the teaching positions in the Czech Republic are found in Prague. Therefore, as well as being a vibrant city to live in, Prague is a place where your English teaching career can be well established.

CELTA in Prague is an excellent accreditation to have as employers in the city understand how intense the course is and will appreciate the value you have to offer their institution. Salaries vary, but on average a teacher in Prague can earn around 18,000 CZK - 30,000 CZK (or 800 USD - 1,300 USD) working about 25 hours a week. If you choose to tutor or work by the hour, wages are generally about 200 CZK (about 12 USD ) for a 45-minute class.

Life in Prague is considerably cheaper than many European cities and the USA, so you can afford a good standard of living as a TEFL teacher. The city is vibrant, with a relatively low cost of living. Also, the system makes it easy for non-EU citizens to stay and find a job, unlike a lot of other EU countries. Don’t forget, though, that the CELTA is well respected and accepted across the world.

From Prague, you can easily access other parts of Europe, so if you choose to move on after your course is complete, you will be able to travel freely and apply for jobs worldwide.

Things to do in Prague, Czech Republic while taking a CELTA

Popularly referred to as the Heart of Europe, the medieval city of Prague, famous for its beer consumption, offers a wide variety of things to do and places to explore. The city has well preserved architectural buildings, monuments and a picturesque natural landscape.

The lovely old town, Stare Mesto, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site is a popular destination among tourists from across the world. The Scenic Old Town Square, also referred to as Staromestske, is home to the monumental Astronomical Clock which you should stay and watch as it strikes the hour. There, you will also find the Old Town Hall Tower and the magnificent Kostel Matky Bozi pred Tynem also called Church of Our Lady before Tyn.

Another favorite site is the statue of Jesus as a baby found in Mala Starna of the center of the city. Popularly called The Child of Prague, many visitors include this in their stay in Prague. Visit Josefov, a historical site used as a ghetto in the 13th century when Jews were forced to resettle here or the Dancing House, Tancici dum, favorite spot for tourists and one of the city's most photographed attraction.

Not to be missed is Prague Castle in the Hradcany district, with St Vitus Cathedral within the grounds. Interestingly, the castle was built in 1929 so it’s not as old as it appears. A more unusual visit could be a stop off at the KGB museum, the Strahov Monastery and the magical peace square called Namesti Miru.

Whilst staying in Prague, try some of the local food. Potato soup, fruit dumplings, and apple strudel or roast pork with dumplings and sauerkraut are some delicious dishes you should taste before leaving the city.
